Chief Thomas J. McCracken joined the French Lick Police Department in September of 1981 as a patrolman. In May of 1991 he was apppointed as assistant Chief of Police and in May of 1994 he received the rank of Chief.
Chief McCracken is a 1977 graduate of Springs Valley High School, attended Olivet Nazarene College, Indiana State University, University of Maryland, and Central Texas College. Chief McCracken was in the U.S. Army where he served as a Military Police Officer in Germany from 1978 to 1981. Chief McCracken is a 1982 graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and has attended various seminars on related law enforcement topics. Chief McCracken is also the vice-president on the board of aviation commissioners.
